As has been widely reported in the press, the Visa payment network has crashed throughout the UK and Europe. This has led to transactions failing or being denied for millions of vendors. Squeegee customers have experienced the effect with some subscription renewal issues and we are currently managing these problems. Visa confirmed the outage and stated that it is investigating the cause but did not indicate that they currently had any indication what it might be.
Visa customers across Europe have been widely reporting the issue on Twitter, stating that payments are not being accepted in many shops and fuel stations.
In a statement, Visa said: “Visa is currently experiencing a service disruption. This incident is preventing some Visa transactions in Europe from being processed. We are investigating the cause and working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation".
The Payment Systems Regulator told the UK's BBC that it understood the problem to be limited to Visa card payments only. Meanwhile in response to customer complaints on social media, HSBC stated that there were issues with Visa payment processing and that they were intermittent but "slowly recovering".
